The Art of the Brow

How shape, colour, and balance quietly change your whole face

Brows have quietly become one of the most powerful features on the face.

They frame your eyes, influence how lifted you look, and play a huge role in whether your face reads soft, strong, youthful, or polished. And yet, most of us grew up in an era where brows were over-plucked, over-darkened, under-cared-for, or shaped purely based on trends rather than our own bone structure.

At Indulge, we see brows as an art form. Not in a dramatic, overdone way, but in a subtle, thoughtful, face-harmonising way. Because the best brows are not about copying someone else’s. They are about enhancing yours.

Brows, Then vs Now

If you’ve been alive long enough, you’ve probably lived through at least a few brow eras.

The ultra-thin 90s and early 2000s brow, the bold carved Instagram brow, the fluffy laminated brow, and now the softer “my brows but better” look.

Trends come and go, but what remains timeless is balance.

The most flattering brows are rarely extreme. They tend to sit somewhere in the middle, respecting your natural growth pattern, your face shape, and your features. Brows should not dominate your face. They should quietly elevate it.

Why Brows Have Such a Big Impact

Your brows sit at the centre of your face, which means small changes can make a surprisingly big difference.

A slightly lifted arch can make the eyes appear more open. A fuller front can soften the face. A cleaner tail can instantly look more polished. The right colour can make your eyes pop and your skin look brighter.

When brows are shaped and coloured well, people often cannot pinpoint what looks different. They just know you look fresher, more balanced, and more “put together”. That’s the goal.

Shape Matters More Than You Think

There is no single “perfect” brow shape.

A great brow shape is guided by your natural growth, bone structure, eye shape, forehead height, and overall facial proportions. Some faces suit a gentle arch, others look best with a straighter brow. Some people can carry more thickness, while others suit a softer, slimmer shape.

Trying to force your brows into a trending shape that does not suit your face usually leads to frustration. Working with what you naturally have almost always wins.

Colour Is Just As Important As Shape

Colour can make or break a brow result.

Brows that are too dark can look harsh. Brows that run too warm can pull orange. Brows that are too cool can look flat or grey. The right tint should complement your hair colour, skin tone, and natural brow hairs so everything feels cohesive.

Good brow colour does not scream “tint”. It simply adds depth, definition, and softness. Think natural, not blocky.

Brow Treatments Explained (Simply)

If you’re not quite sure what’s what, here’s a quick breakdown:

Brow Shape Removes unwanted hair and creates a clean, balanced shape.

Brow Tint Adds colour to the brow hairs for more depth and definition.

Brow Lamination Softens and sets the brow hairs into a brushed, lifted position, helping brows appear fuller and more uniform.

Brow Lamination + Tint + Shape The full brow makeover. Shape, colour, and structure in one.

We often recommend combining treatments for the best result, but everything is tailored to what you need.

Maintenance Matters

Brows are not a one-and-done situation.

Most clients do best with a tint every 3 to 5 weeks, lamination every 6 to 8 weeks, and regular shaping in between. Consistency keeps brows looking their best and prevents the need for drastic reshaping later.

Common Brow Mistakes We See

Over-plucking at home, using the wrong colour pencil or pomade, chasing trends instead of balance, and leaving maintenance too long between appointments.

If you have brow trauma from the early 2000s, you are definitely not alone. Brows can often be rehabilitated, but it takes time, patience, and a gentle approach.

Our Approach at Indulge

We do not believe in cookie-cutter brows.

Every brow service starts with a conversation. We look at your face shape, your features, your lifestyle, and what kind of look you love.

Some clients want fluffy and bold. Some want soft and subtle. Most want something that still looks like them, just better.

That’s exactly what we aim for.

Thinking About Refreshing Your Brows?

If your brows feel a little “meh”, uneven, sparse, or just not quite right anymore, a professional brow shape, tint, or lamination can make a bigger difference than you might expect.

Book in, have a chat with one of our therapists, and we’ll create a brow plan that suits you.

Because great brows are not about trends. They are about harmony.
